Top Tips for This Halloween Owl:

  • You can colour modelling paste as you like to make variations on this topper.
  • Once you've used the cutter, shape the ball a bit so the edges aren't too harsh.
  • Make sure to keep the modelling paste in a sandwich bag so it doesn't dry out while you are making your owl.
  • Mix a little bit of brown into the white paste for the eyes so they aren't a harsh white.
  • Use a scalpel knife to shape the wings, use your fingers to soften the edges so the cut is not so harsh.
  • Use a dresden tool to mark the feet and make "toes".
  • Where you are going to place the hat, cut off the pointed edge of the owl.
  • Saracino usually sticks to itself quite easily so you shouldn't need glue.
  • If you don't have a triangle cutter you can cut it to size using the scalpel and your best judgement.

A Few Cakes to Inspire:

We've collected a few of our favourite Halloween and Autumn themed cakes to inspire and help get you on your way to a perfect Halloween!

Have a look at this inspiration and see what you can make and how you can use your new skills from our tutorial!

This cake comes from Maria at Glyka Bake Shop. Established for 10 years, she is a self taught baker based in New York/Tristate Area.

She makes custom bakes with ingredients of the highest quality and her little hand made models are what make her really stand out.

This Halloween cake is just perfect for a spooky celebration or Autumnal birthday and our Halloween Owl topper would work perfectly on this two tiered cake. The silhouettes and bold colours really make this cake stand out.

These cupcakes are made by Pink Cake Box, established in 2005, they make custom cakes in Denville, NJ.

We love the simple design on these Halloween cupcakes, with the little modelled hats and perfectly piped buttercream, they really are little beauties. The colour of the icing is really vibrant and looks so powerful against the black of the hats. We wouldn't mind one or two of these.

Finally this beautifully black cake is made by Mandy Merriman from Baking with Blondie

Based in Utah, Mandy makes some amazing custom bakes including this black halloween inspired cake.

Another beautiful design, complete with perfect drips, modelling and even some autumnal sprinkles. What's not to love? This cake looks really effective and would be perfect for any Halloween themed party!
