Free cake tutorial showing you how to cover a cake board.

Covering a cake board really adds that professional look to any cake. In this short free video Rachel, one of the Pretty Witty Academy guest tutors shows you how.

Materials used

  • Cake drum
  • Sugarpaste
  • Rolling pin
  • Rolling out board
  • Icing sugar
  • Icing spacers
  • Smoother
  • Pastry brush
  • Sharp knife
  • 15mm ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Non toxic glue stick
  • Pearl headed pin

Top Tips

  • Always have a smoother in your hand when trimming the edges. This will stop you automatically putting your hand on the icing and accidentally marking it.
  • Don't forget that you want to start by using the icing spacers, but ultimately your icing on the board should be thinner than the spacers, so don't forget to move them out of the way at the end.
  • Remember your cake drum is 12mm deep and your ribbon is 15mm deep so you want your icing to be approx 3mm thick.
