How to Make Your Own Stamens

Stamens can be so expensive to buy, and sometimes you may only need a few and not a whole bunch. This fantastic free video tutorial from Guest Tutor and wedding cake expert at Pretty Witty Academy Rachel Hill shows you how to make your own.

What you will need:

  • White or green floristry wire. We recommend 26 gauge
  • Craft beads
  • PVA glue
  • Cocktail stick

Top Tips:

  • PVA is the best type of glue for making these stamens as it dries clear and isn't stringy or too sticky. It is also nice and strong.
  • Check out your local craft store for different types of beads, why not look for some iridescent beads or maybe some long thin shaped beads.
  • If you wanted a slightly more natural look opt for a green wire and yellow or orange beads to look like pollen.
  • Before you start, work out exactly how many flowers you are making and then work out exactly how many stamen you need, that way you won't have lots left over and you can use the left over beads for another craft project.

Sugar Flowers with Stamens

Sugar flowers can be made a little more glam by jazzing up the stamens a little bit. As sugar flowers are not normally eaten this does not detract from the cake (although always warn your customer where your non edible items are).
