Collaboration Review: Still Life Florals

Collaboration Review: Still Life Florals

We came across the beautiful collaboration while having a look around the cake world. It is stunning and so we just couldn't not share it. This collaboration is from Still Life Florals: Fine Art in Sugar and was organised by the very talented Ashley Barbey.

Still Life Florals: Fine Art in Sugar

This collaboration explores sugar as a fine art in the form of hand crafted sugar flowers. What they do is really no different that of sculptors, fine art painters, mixed media artists etc. Ashley wanted to demonstrate sugar flowers standing on their own without cake, they could then be arranged and displayed like that of real flowers in an artistic way.

The pieces range anywhere from modern minimalist to classic full, abundant arrangements. Everyone embraced this theme so well and created stunning works of art unique to their individual style.

Have a look at our favourites from this collaboration below:

We just loved this really beautiful collaboration and so have reviewed all of the collaboration entries below. We just couldn't narrow it down as they were all really incredible.

Anastasia has done a really stunning job with this piece for the Still Life Florals Collaboration. The detail is wonderful and the way she has captured the delicate nature and fragility of the flower is really wonderful. We love the detail of the little bee in the flower and the ice cream cone is such a sweet way to present this piece.

The colouring is also incredibly delicate and has been dusted so well, she has created depth and movement in her flower with very fine details that add together to make a really amazing piece of sugar art.

Jennifer began her caking career in 2004 having graduated from university in Texas and going on to do graphic design. She then found a love for culinary art and she is now a sugar artist who creates really incredible novelty and wedding cakes.

This piece is amazing and really pushes boundaries by defying convention and making a darker and more moody piece. She has really used her imagination and the pop of yellow and white are a great addition to this floral display. We loved the differing heights, giving it added interest and movement to the display as a whole. It is really well done and we loved it.

The differing heights and sizes of the flowers make this display really eye catching and look wonderful. Nermeen is so talented with the floral display, the detail in each flower and the complimentary peach and pink tones of flower, it is nothing short of incredible. Another beautiful piece from this collaboration.

We love how she has even included blackberries which add another dimension to this floral display. It's a really wonderful piece with soft colours and amazing detail, the choice of a Dutch masters style backdrop really speaks well to this piece and suits the arrangement beautifully. Shruti has made this piece so wonderfully realistic, even a close up would fool you, the detail is stunning. She has clearly thought hard about what mediums would represent her flowers best and has used them to her advantage in creating this edible piece of art. The sheer volume of flowers and detail is incredible and she should be so proud of this stunning piece. Another dutch masters style design and backdrop which again compliments the style of her art wonderfully.

This piece is beautiful. The moody feel, autumnal colours and low display in tins, it just works incredibly well as a whole piece. We loved the array of flowers in the display and the sporadic nature and composition of the design has been beautifully constructed. The detail in the flowers is amazing and the carefully placed bee is really sweet and a lovely addition to this display. It really is an abundance of detail, sugar art excellence and floristry skill that has been made so well.

The hoop is a very modern and innovative way to create her artistic display of flowers, one which we really love. The colours are also beautiful and so vibrant, they have been captured incredibly well and the flowers have been beautifully made. The contrast of the colours on the black background has also been so well thought out as they really pop against this dark background.
